Born on January 20, 1942, in Doniphan, MO to Fred L. Brown and Mavis Murphy Brown. Wendel's life was marked by his generous spirit, intelligence, and kindness that touched everyone he met.
Wendel's journey began in the heart of Missouri, where he was a standout athlete at Doniphan High School. He shone on the Lone Star Basketball team, leading them to the State Basketball Tournament and leaving a legacy of determination and sportsmanship. Wendel's love for sports continued throughout his life, whether he was golfing with his brothers on Sundays or displaying his skill as a "pool shark" in the family-operated Pool Hall at the tender age of 16.
After graduating, Wendel channeled his formidable work ethic into starting his own logging and land development business, Brown Timber Farms, at just nineteen years old. His reputation as a respected logger grew with each passing year, and he took particular pride in being the contractor chosen to clear timber for the construction of Mark Twain Lake, a project that developed over 920 acres and showcased his deep connection to the land.
Wendel's passion for cars was undeniable. He could often be found wheeling and dealing for a new car or truck, his eyes always lighting up at the sight of a Cadillac. However, his heart belonged to the 1958 golden Anniversary Edition Impala, a car that captured the essence of his love for classic automobiles.
A man of faith, Wendel lived his Christian beliefs through his actions, always ready to lend a hand or share his blessings with others. His generosity knew no bounds; as a youngster, he sold newspapers and greeting cards, earning enough to provide for his family's Christmas. This spirit of giving continued throughout his life, touching the hearts of those around him.
Wendel's presence was a comfort to many, whether he was watching old Westerns on TV, never missing the news, or enjoying a meal out with his family. He relished taking car rides to check on the timber or farm land, moments of quiet reflection on the fruits of his labor and love for Missouri's natural beauty.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his beloved wife, Donette Marie Doss Brown, and their blended family. Wendel's memory will be honored by his children, Kim Billman (Tim) of Hannibal, MO, Wendy Christal (Corey) of Center, MO, Ashley Woolfolk (Cole) of Mexico, MO, Clinton Lee Brown of Monroe City, MO, BreAnna Campbell (John Moore) of Hannibal, MO, and stepson Chad McAfee (Shanda) of Hannibal, MO. His brothers Larry Brown of Columbia, MO, Harold Brown (Terry) Cole Camp, MO, and Bert Ross (James) of Center, MO, along with his sisters Fredda Scarborough (Dave) of Brownsburg, IN and Pat Blackwell of Frankford, MO, will hold his spirit in their hearts.
