Delores Walker Phelps, 76, of Danville, Va., passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. She was born on January 31, 1948, in Danville, to the late Vera Canupp Walker and the late Rush M. Walker Sr. She was married to the late Daniel Phelps. Mrs. Phelps was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her by her daughters, Darlene Sierra (Chato) of Danville, and Debbie Zahrn (Danny) of Danville as well as her grandchildren, Melanie Lawson, Daniel Foster, Holly Scearce, Alex Merrill, Kayla Zahrn Gasper, JD Zahrn and numerous great-grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply.
She was a graduate of Dan River High School and retired from Sovah Health after 28 years where she built not only a career, but lifelong friendships with fellow nurse colleagues who became like family to her. She enjoyed day trips with her husband, vacations to Pigeon Forge and most of all, she cherished the time she spent with family and her beloved dog, Butter Bean “Butter”.
With her sharp wit, shared laughter, and plenty of pranks, she will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all that knew and loved her. “She just didn’t brighten the world; she made it laugh.”
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel with Hazel Gray (DM) officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Highland Burial Park.
