Mr. William “Bill” Walter Burke, age 79, of Alamo, GA, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, November 27, 2024, at Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Alamo Methodist Church with Rev. Amy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will follow in the Alamo Memorial Cemetery. Gary McAlum, Pat McAlum, Sean McAlum, Christopher Boyette, Billy Ussery, and Robert Ramirez will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Alamo Methodist Church, Fred Ussery, Steve Jones, William L. Boyette, Jimmy Knight, and Emri Comer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice, Alamo Memorial Cemetery, or Alamo Methodist Church.
Mr. Burke was born December 26, 1944, in Brunswick, GA, to the late Willie S. and Colene C. Burke. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Joelene B. and Larry Boyette. He is survived by his wife, Linda McAlum Burke; sister, Martha Ann B. Ginter (Duane); brother-in-law, Harry McAlum; and several special nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burke was a veteran of the United States Army and spent most of his years of service in Japan and Turkey. He retired from Heart of Georgia RESA and was a member of the Alamo Methodist Church, Wheeler County Chamber of Commerce, and Alamo Lions Club. He enjoyed going to the movies, fishing, hunting, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and Georgia Bulldogs. His family and friends will always remember him for his cheerful disposition, contagious smile, witty sense of humor, and a heart full of love for everyone he knew.
