Karen Sue Williams, born on August 18, 1948, in French Lick, Indiana, was called home on November 28, 2024, at her residence in Omaha, Illinois. She was a beloved and deeply cherished daughter, mother, grandma, and friend to many. Although Karen held many titles throughout her life, she was most affectionately known as Grandma. Her journey through life was marked by a deep love for her family, a quiet and sometimes unexpected sense of humor, a strong faith and love for Jesus Christ, and an unwavering dedication to serving others. One of her first jobs included working alongside nurses at a hospital when she was 15. After her days serving patients in the hospital, she joined her husband in operating the family-owned Omaha Furniture Store, which she continued to do for over 50 years. She loved painting, traveling, cooking, going out to eat with family, attending church at Ditney Ridge Baptist Church, and spending time with loved ones. Karen's compassion extended beyond her family. Known for her slow and careful driving (especially on the Lloyd Expressway), she would still stop her car to hand out food and water to homeless individuals in Evansville. Her grandchildren fondly remember her weekly outings during their college years, where she treated them to meals and stocked their pantries with groceries from Sam's Club, ensuring they were cared for even when they were far from home. Karen’s love for her family was as unique as it was profound. She took the time to know each of her grandchildren individually, tailoring her love to their personalities while ensuring it was equal in depth. Whether she was celebrating their accomplishments or simply being present in their lives, Karen’s support was unwavering. She had a quiet yet powerful presence, offering comfort during moments of grief and joy in moments of celebration. Her mere presence was all you could need, all 4 feet something of it. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Mildred Payton; husband of almost 50 years, Donald Ray Williams; and brother, Barry Grunden. Karen is survived by her four children, Donna and Byrd Huber of Evansville, Diane and Shad Payne of Olney, Kevin Williams and Loran Karcher of Omaha, and Kathy Williams of Harrisburg; and eight grandchildren, Jade Money, Colby Payne (Jaci), Jerrica Money, Kerrie Williams, Tristen Payne, Trenton Payne, Chris Williams, and Drew Williams. Karen’s life was defined by unconditional love. It didn’t matter whether her family accomplished something grand or nothing at all—she was their biggest supporter. Her laughter, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May her memory be a blessing, and may her legacy inspire us to carry forward her love in all we do. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ditney Ridge Baptist Church near Norris City, with a funeral service to follow. Burial will be at the Ditney Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Roger Hobbs to officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ditney Ridge for the Christmas gifts to nursing home residents program. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway in charge of the service.
