Paul B. Engborg Obituary

Hello family and friends,

The advantage of knowing that someday I am going to die is, that before that happens, I have the opportunity to write my own obituary, so here it is as of November 2024!

Paul Engborg, age 86 of Cape Porpoise, Maine. Born November 5, 1938. Deceased November 28, 2024.

His demise was caused by one of the following reasons:

1) cancer 2) natural causes 3) unnatural causes 4) old age 5) just plum wore out 6)

old timer's disease of atrophiosis of phrenological incapacitation causing organic dysfunctionalism.

Paul was born in Boston, Mass. on November 5, 1938, the son of Maude J. and Arnold H. Engborg. He was educated at Lexington, Mass. schools and graduated from Newton Junior College, Leland Powers School of Radio, TV and Theatre, Boston, and Boston University's School of Public Communications.

Paul had been an Advertising Account Executive with the Journal Tribune (Biddeford, ME) since 1980, retiring in 2008 at the age of 70. Prior to that, he was a radio announcer in the Greater Boston area, a production, and cameraman for Boston's Public Television station, WGBH-TV, a print production supervisor for Batten Barton Durstine and Osborn Advertising Agency in San Francisco and Boston, a customer service representative for The Vermont Printing Company and The Book Press of Brattleboro, Vermont, as well as the Murray Printing Company of Westford, Mass. He also claims to have been a "pillow fluffer" for a number of years at the Blaffney Pillow Factory in Peoria, IL, but that has never been confirmed.

Paul was somewhat of a versatilitarian and had many interests through the years. While a senior on the track team at Lexington High School, he won the state championship in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet. Also, he was selected to play his clarinet in the All-State Band in a concert at Symphony Hall in Boston. A long-time vintage sports car enthusiast, while in his teens, he enjoyed competition driving a rare 1927 Grand Prix Bugatti Type 35B owned by his father. He went on many years later to become one of the top drivers in his 1973 Alfa Romeo GTV in road course track days and time trial competitions with the Alfa-Romeo Owners' Club of New England as well as the COM Sports Car Club.

Paul was listed among the top ten swimmers in the Maine Masters competitions in various events. He participated in yoga and fitness workouts as well as bicycling, cross-country skiing, skating, and swimming for health and fitness. He was also a recorder player for over 30 years and performed annually with the King's Revels, a Renaissance musical group. More recently, he took OLLI courses at USM in Portland and played in the OLLI Recorder Ensemble, and sang in the OLLI chorus. He was also a member of the Village Bell Ringers of Kennebunk. Photography and travel were also among other interests.

In years past with his second wife Linda, he had travelled to Spain, England, Ireland, Canada, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Turks and Caicos Island, Morocco, Gibraltar, Tijuana, Montreal, Quebec City, Prince Edward Island, Perth Amboy, New Jersey, plus Biddeford and Sanford, Maine, as well as most of the United States.

During his lifetime he had been a member of AAA, AARP, AONE(Alfa Owners of New England), AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Actors), COM (Corvettes of Mass Sports Car Club), CMC (Cumberland Motor Club), LPWA (Lame Poetry Writers Association), MMSC (Maine Masters Swim Club), OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute), SMC (Seacoast Motor Club), STOA (Slow Talkers of America), The YMCA, NLAA (National Leisure Activities Association), MBFBA (Maine Black Fly Breeders Association.) He was also a frequent contributor to Wasting Time Magazine.

Known by some as "Mr.Wrinklefree" and by his grandchildren as "Grandpaul”, his sense of humor activated many a chuckle, and he felt the day was lost if one did not have at least one good laugh. Paul was slightly mechanically challenged but overcame this handicap with the application of duct tape to many situations requiring a solution to annoying malfunctions.

Paul was married to Anne Proctor of Rutland, VT, in 1963. They divorced after 15 years and had three children. Paul's second wife of 22 years, Linda LeRoyer, predeceased him on September 9, 2008. After Linda's death, Paul had another wonderful life with his loving companion for 15 years, Joanna Peverett, who died March 3, 2024, at the age of 81.

Survivors include Paul's brother Alan Engborg of Cape Porpoise and Paul's two sons, Philip Engborg and his wife Jennifer of Greenfield Center, NY and their two children, Christopher and Peyton, Bradford Engborg and his wife Donna, of Woodbridge, VA and their two children Kyle and Tyler, daughter Ellen Libby and her two children Zoe and Max, and her partner, Edward "Buzz" Heidt of Morrisville, NC, a stepson, Dale Charles of Watertown, MA and his son Jaksen, two step-daughters, Carla Biggert of Oakland, CA, and Karen Campbell and her husband Curt of Lyman, ME and their three children Tony, Dylan and Christina. In addition, he leaves three cousins and one niece, and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves Joanna's two sons, Peter Peverett of Millinocket, ME and his wife Chrissy, and Michael Peverett of Dover, NH and his wife Ellen.
