It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Keith Leal in Pincher Creek, Alberta on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the age of 96 years.
Keith was a lover of nature and the outdoors ever since he was a young boy growing up in a little town called Red Willow, Alberta. He lived there with his parents Mary and Alfred and his two siblings Glen and Shirley. He spoke often of his childhood and had many memories rambling in the Prairie town with his brother and friends.
The family eventually moved to the big city of Edmonton and which is where he met his lifetime love, Eileen Grue. They eventually married and moved to Pincher Creek, where he became an operator at the Gulf plant. It was during this time that he and a friend ventured into the old coal mining area of Corbin, British Columbia. It was here that he spotted an old log cabin that he purchased and built into a family get away. Those were the most precious years for him and our family. Adventures fishing and hiking in the mountains, picking berries, and having camp fires galore.
In 1976 Keith retired from the Gulf plant and took a job overseas in Iran, where he taught gas plant operations to young Iranians. After a 2 year stint there, he went to the United Arab Emirates to teach as well. Upon returning back to Canada, they purchased a small house where they lived until they entered Crestview Lodge. During this time dad lived part-time at a nearby campground in the trailer he purchased, and spent many summers with his family and dog Chi Chi, enjoying the outdoors once again.
Keith was a voracious reader. Everything from history of the world to geo-politics and current affairs. Being very computer literate for decades, he used his skills to seek out facts and information, not always obvious, in the common media sources.
He had a very long and productive life and he will be missed by all. He has left many memories behind of our years at Corbin where most of our family memories were made.
Keith is survived by his children: Sandy Snell, Stuart Leal, and Rayleen Leal; grandchildren: Sharla (Rudy) Dyck, Trevor Snell, Andrew Leal, and Erica Leal; and great-grandchildren: Shaina, Bowen (Gloria), and Halaena Dyck.
Keith was pre-deceased by his lifetime love Eileen Leal and his son Randy Leal.
In honor of Keith's wishes, no service will be held.
Cremation entrusted to Snodgrass Funeral Home Pincher Creek Chapel - (403) 627-4864.
