Donnie Payton

David Archie “Donnie” Payton Sr., 76, husband of the late Sara Parnell Payton, of Iva, S.C., passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at his home.

Born in Lowndesville, S.C., on November 11, 1948, he was a son of the late James Wilton “Abby” Payton, and the late Reedy Boles Payton.

Donnie was a member of Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 55 years. He held a lengthy career in the textile industry as a loom fixer and rebuilder. For many years, he worked at Jackson Mill in Iva until it closed. He ultimately retired from Glen Raven Mills of Anderson. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish and he especially enjoyed spending any moment he would with his grandchildren and great-grands.

He is survived by sons, David Archie Payton Jr. (Brittany), and Jeffrey Lane Payton (Kelly), his daughter Terra Ophelia Erwin (Raymond), his grandchildren, Zachary Payton (Emily), Zoiee Payton, Chandler Burnette (Wes), Abbie Payton, Anslee Payton, Kaila Olaes (Kenny), Kelsey Cox (Chris), Ethan Cox, Berkleigh Rosee Payton, Bentley Covert, and Bryleigh Covert as well as his great-grandchildren, Keaton Jones, Berkeley Burnette, Jayce Olaes, Jameson Olaes, Dayton McGee, and Sarah Ann Payton.

He is also survived by his sister Jenny Dixon.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Wilton Henry “Rooster” Payton, Nell Payton Ethridge, Bonnie Payton Provan, and Charles Randall “Bear” Payton.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lowndesville, S.C. Pastor Scotty Willoughby will officiate, and burial will follow, beside his wife, in Smyrna Cemetery.

The family will receive friends, at the church, prior to the service, from 12:30pm-2:00pm.
