Doris Palmer Morris (Forth) of Glenwood passed away Thanksgiving morning, November 28, at the age of 97. She was born to the late Elmer and Elsie (Hardy) Forth on September 24, 1927. She is survived by her daughters Nancy (Charles) Miess of Glenwood and Carol Palmer Cooper of Glenwood; her grandchildren Adam Miess, Katherine (Mathew) Kumro, Laura “Rose” Miess, Justin Cooper, and Trevor Cooper; as well as stepchildren, nephews, nieces, and two grand doggies and kitties. She is predeceased by her first husband James E. Palmer and her second, James L. Morris.
After earning her degree from Millard Fillmore School of Nursing in 1948, she devoted her life to patients at Millard Filmore and then, for more than thirty years, at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville. In addition to her dedication to her profession, she raised two daughters, played the organ at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Springville, and found time to pursue her passions for painting, gardening, traveling and ham radio. Many of her works of art are treasured possessions in the homes of people throughout Western New York and beyond.
Her greatest legacy will be to her grandchildren. To them her house was a happy and peaceful home with the smell of coffee and the warmth of a fireplace. She had a preternatural ability to detect, from anywhere in the house, when one of them infiltrated her cookie jar. Her uncanny ability to admonish a naughty grandchild in a kind and loving way, not only helped to develop their character, but contributed to their self esteem as well. She instilled in them her passion for art, her kindness, and her love.
Doris was a natural care-giver—wise, funny, and full of love. We will miss her.
