KEYSER – Lee Roy Garland, 95, of Keyser, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Potomac Valley Hospital.


Born June 9, 1929, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Lucius and Helen (Stallings) Garland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Wrightsman) Garland; daughter, Beverly Fox; grandson, Frank Yonker; great-granddaughter, Miranda Niland; brothers, Wilbur, Ralph, Alfred, Alvin, Melvin, James, and Robert Garland; sisters, Pearl Snyder, Nola Helmstetter, Nina Shaw, and Shirley Heare.


Lee worked hard for his entire life. By the age of 14 he was working on an orchard and offering most of his paycheck to his parents to help care for his family. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army, and he later became a member of the VFW and American Legion in Keyser. Lee also worked in sales at Timbrook Chevrolet before taking a hard-earned retirement. He attended the Keyser Church of the Brethren. Lee was an avid golfer and hunter. Additionally, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and most any outdoor activity.


Lee is survived by his children, Mary Keller (Gary), Brenda Verno, Peggy Twigg (Richard), and Roger Garland (Kerri); sister, Reba Nelson; special friend, Jane Borror; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a number of great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.


In accordance with his wishes, Lee will be cremated.


Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 1 to 2pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2pm. Military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
