Nancy Lorene Braa Obituary

Nancy Lorene Casey Braa, known to her friends and loved ones as “Lorri”, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 82. Lorri was born on February 14, 1942, in Tipton County, Tennessee, to Eric and Nancy “Nannie” Casey.


Lorri spent her formative years in Memphis, graduating from Whitehaven High School, Class of 1960. Later she would move across the country and back, finally settling in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Lorri started her career as the secretary for the Erosion Commission. In 1989, she transferred to Public Works/Operations Management for the City of Virginia Beach where she retired as the Supervisor of Customer Service in 2000. She moved to Norfolk, Virginia when she lost her beloved husband of 35 years, Wallace “Wally” Braa.


Lorri was a member of Nimmo United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach since 1977 and frequently attended Christ United Methodist Church in Norfolk. She was a member of several church circles at Nimmo UMC, Christ UMC, and St. John Lutheran Church in Norfolk.


Lorri was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Eugene Clark Casey. She is survived by her loving family, her son, Wade Moody and his wife, Amy, and her daughter, Romanda Hannigan and her husband, William, and her adored grandchildren: Kyleigh Hannigan, Quinton Moody, Megan Moody Brown (George), Garek Hannigan, and her step-grandchildren Noel and Lily Crichton. Lorri was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Blakely Mae Brown. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Martha Ludwick (Kenneth), Linda Nowell, and James Casey (Jane) along with her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.


A memorial service will be held at Nimmo United Methodist Church on December 19, 2024, at 3:00 pm, followed by a graveside service in the adjoining cemetery.
