Nellie L. (Layton) Salyers, age 88, passed away peacefully in hospice care while at home on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, surrounded by family. 

 She was born at home in Tunnelton, WV, December 31, 1935, to Thomas W. Layton and Harriett R. (Bowmar) Layton, both of whom preceded her in death. Surviving Nellie, her sons, Steven Salyers (Cheryl), of Hilliard, Gregory Salyers of Worthington; Daughters, Cherie Fritch (Bruce) of Delaware, Janice Teter (Dick) of Delaware, Renee Salyers of Delaware, and Regina Salyers of Delaware; her grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Adam, Craig, Keith, Courtney, Patrick, Lauren, Chris, Brent, Kyle, Austin; great grandchildren, Owen, Makayla, Kaeden, Skyler, Mayley, Reagan, Riley, Brynley, Leo, Oakley, Ellie, Avery, River and Luci; her sister, Shirley Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also preceding Nellie in death are brothers, Bill, Archie, John, Lee Roy, Perry, Chuck, Dale; her sisters, Mary York, Dorothy Williams, Lovell Pyle, Lillian DeWalt, Roxie Basford; and her grandson, Jason Salyers. 

 Nellie was a 1954 graduate of Big Walnut High School. Nellie was a homemaker and helped her husband build a golf course construction business, while raising her family. Nellie loved to travel, and was proud of having travelled to all 50 states, as well as Canada and Mexico. She also loved to cook for her family and friends. Mom was an avid euchre player and loved football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will forever miss her loving presence.

Friends and loved ones are invited to gather at Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Galena Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Nellie's memory.
