On November 27, 2024 Sheldon Curtis Edelman passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home after an extended illness. Shelly was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life Hazel Brown Edelman, parents Carl and Loreda Bower Edelman, brother Lowell Tennyson Edelman.
Shelly was a lifelong resident of Glasgow. He was a Private First Class serving in the Third Armor Division of the US Army. He dedicated his life to hard work and community service, working for Bethlehem Steel, Valley Camp Coal, and retiring from the West Virginia Department of Highways. Additionally, he served as the beloved town barber for over 50 years, leaving a lasting legacy of care and connection. Shelly will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Suzette (JL) Breeden of Glasgow and Beth (David) Burke of League City, TX, and sons Deane (Rose) Edelman of South Riding, VA, Curtis (Tammy) Edelman of Shrewsbury and Glen Edelman of Glasgow. He was Poppaw to six grandchildren Jamie (Shanna) Breeden, Andrea (Craig) Petry, Joshua (Sarah) Burke, Daniel (Morgan) Burke, Elijah Edelman and Tennyson Edelman. He was also Poppaw to nine great-grandchildren Jacob Petry, Eli Petry, Rylee Taylor, Kaylee Breeden, Bryson Breeden, Jaylee Breeden, Olivia Burke, Savannah Burke, Blayke Burke. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to his caregivers Shanna, Sandy, Jessica, Donna, and Sally.
Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3rd, with visitation one hour prior to service at Hughes Creek Community Church with Pastor Gary Tucker and Craig Petry officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 2nd at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hughes Creek Community Church, Hugheston, WV 25110 where Shelly generously gave his time and effort to help build the church or to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311 who lovingly cared for him in his final days.
