Jeanne Marie (Vautour) McKenzie, 90 of Haverhill, passed away on Tuesday evening, November 26, 2024, at Hannah Duston in Haverhill, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Lawrence, MA to the late Lionel and Minnie (Grenier) Vautour.
Jeanne was the light of our life, her infectious smile, strength and love for helping others was a gift, she put everyone before herself her entire life. “You are stuck with me, whether you like it or not” was embedded in her heart and she expressed it to those that she loved - along with her special compliments to everyone.
A devoted "Old Fashioned Catholic" whose presence comforted everyone that knew her. She had an angel within her you could feel and a glow you could see a mile away. Family was her life, and family dinners, there was nothing more important to her, and until several weeks ago had this tradition for the last 35 years. No matter what the circumstance, it was on the family's schedule. Her children and grandson Robert’s love was so special, they all had a special routine with her. Her son in law Joe was so loved by her - maybe it was the grand slam breakfasts or the way he loved her so much. She loved laughing, helping others, "protecting people" music, bingo, dancing, if even in a wheelchair, flowers, and despite her courageous fights and pain she got to experience all that in her daily routine with the help of the Team at Hannah Duston and family. If not, she would help them fold while sitting in her special spot looking out the bright sunny window, in the dayroom watching everyone come in and out, just waiting for someone to come in and compliment. And perhaps a hug or a back scratch.
Her daughter would try as often as possible to take her out shopping, to Mass at All Saints and long coastal rides listening to her favorite music which was Christmas music year-round, the Carpenters “Top of the World ” and her all-time favorite everyone has listened to with her, “Can I have this Dance by Anne Murray – the last song she heard moments before she danced her way to heaven. Just imagine the welcoming. She loved her sons and enjoyed their company, especially when Arthur would take her to church and all their favorite restaurants. Michael and Jeanne would listen to their favorite music, watch classic shows and reminisce. She is resting pain free in the arms of her husband. For Gods people it is never good-bye, we will all be together again.
Jeanne was the beloved wife of the late Arthur G. McKenzie and is survived by her children, Arthur and Michael McKenzie and Denise McKenzie Steed and her husband Joseph P. Steed, her grandson, Robert Douglas DiMento and her best friend, Mary Jane Chambers Praiano. Jeanne was predeceased by her sister, Lorraine Matton.
Hannah Duston was her extended family and the love, care and support there was indescribable from the moment she would wake up until she went to bed, she was so loved there, and our family is forever grateful.
