Ruth Brown Schultz Obituary

Ruth Brown Schultz, 89, entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2024, in Florence, South Carolina. A beloved daughter of Effingham, South Carolina, Ruth was born in the Savannah Grove community, on August 15, 1935, the fifth child of the late Arthur, Sr. and Alice Brown.

Ruth was affectionately known as, “Sister,” to her siblings. “Mom” to her children, “Grandma” to four, “Godmother,” to a few and “Auntie,” to a host of nieces and nephews. She attended Wilson High School and ultimately graduating from Mayo High School in Darlington, SC. Later Ruth migrated to Washington, DC where she worked in clerical and administrative positions throughout her career. She married, raised three children and spent the next 45 years in the city before returning to her treasured birthplace and homestead of SC.

Ruth navigated her life with poise, grace and a healthy dose of unpredictability. Having found faith at a young age, she grew in her devotion, dedication and trust in God. Through trials and victories, successes and failures, her faith in God burned with perpetual optimism and hope. An avid follower of the Pentecostal Apostolic faith, her zeal for God led her to ministry, becoming an evangelist and later a pastor in the DC Metropolitan Area. She ministered in churches, at special events and to those in need. With inspiring words and a gifted alto singing voice, Ruth hosted her own radio show on the National Religious Broadcasters Christian Radio WFAX AM/FM, spreading the gospel on air. She instilled those godly principles in her three children and garnered favor with those that crossed her path.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 48 years, Mordecai Schultz; her children who she affectionately referred to as, ‘My Three,’ Daughter - Gloria “Jackie” (Tommie) Thomas whose father was the late William “Darby” Deas and Sons: George Spriggs, Jr and Michael Monroe Spriggs whose father is her former spouse George Spriggs, Sr. Grandchildren: Desmond Walker, Nicole Davis, Michael Phillip Spriggs and Jaden Spriggs. Godchildren: Jauwaun, David, Chikindia and Princess. Five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Seven siblings: Elizabeth Smith, Henry Brown, Sam (Flora) Brown, Nathaniel Norris (Mary Vivian) Brown, Leonis Billy (Thomasena) Brown, George Donnie (Aquila) Brown, Doris (Nathaniel) Lockhart, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Brown, Sr., siblings Franklin Delano Brown, Beatrice Brooks, Bobby Brown, Preston Brown and Arthur Brown, Jr.

Although her earthly journey has ended, she departed this life, leaving behind tearful eyes and bereaved hearts, we rejoice in her well-run race and a legacy of love and graciousness that will endure for generations to come. We will miss her presence; but until we meet again, we’ll honor her in love, with her favorite song, “Walk Around Heaven.”

We ask that you keep the Schultz-Brown family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
