Kay Irene Engle, 77, of Ottumwa, died at 7:12 a.m. November 26, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

She was born January 24, 1947 in Oskaloosa to Robert George and Elizabeth Irene Belzer Russell. Kay married Wayne Engle on December 30, 1973.

A 1965 graduate of Davis County High School, Kay attended St. Joseph School of Nursing and became an RN. A majority of her career she worked as a home health care nurse, working for Ottumwa Regional Health Center Home Care. For a short time she worked as Medicaid Resource Coordinator for Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

She was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Kay was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Surviving is her husband, Wayne; their daughters, Christina (David) Ades of Ottumwa and Amanda (Daryl) Johnson of Brillion, WI; 5 grandchildren, Landon, Micah, Emilie, Nathan and Noah; and a sister, Carol Mertens (Paul Bly) of Iowa City; sisters-in-law, Trish Russell and Rosalee Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Diane Russell; and 2 brothers, Bob and Gary Russell.

Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Sunday, December 1st at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 2nd at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Selden officiating. Cremation will take place after the service.

Private inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery in Eddyville at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
