Darryl Griggs, age 64, of Burnsville, passed peacefully in the early morning hours on November 26th, 2024, surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. Darryl overcame many health battles due to his strong will to fight for a life he loved, one filled with joy and happiness from his kids and grandkids. Darryl’s strength, will, and resilience are qualities only some could hope to achieve. He was a son of the late DT and Virginia Griggs.

His wife of 45 years, Cathy Ponder Griggs, who honored and cared for him until his last breath, is left to cherish his memory along with his children Candi Fox (Mike), Cindy Griggs Rash (Cory), Casey Griggs (Christy), and Derek Honeycutt (Kirstin) and his grandchildren Maci and Coda Fox, Bryson Carpenter, Tatem McKinney, Briella and Drina Honeycutt, and Theo Rash. Surviving brothers and sisters include Gloria Wilson, Tommy Griggs (Daphne), Diane Carroll, and Randy Griggs (Kristy).

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday, December 2nd at Yancey Funeral Services. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the McCracken Cemetery with Pastor Chris Fox officiating. Pallbearers will include Casey Griggs, Derek Honeycutt, AJ Griggs, Nicky Young, Brandon Boone, and Shawn Sluder.

Darryl was well known to the horse community through his knowledge and horsemanship. He coached many riders, including his children and anyone willing to learn.
