Forest Anthony Johnson, known affectionately as Tony to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, in Bay City, Michigan, at the age of 53. Born on February 28, 1971, in Flint, Michigan, Tony grew up in a bustling household that was always filled with love and laughter.
Tony’s life was marked by his devotion to his family, his passion for the simple joys in life, and his unwavering work ethic. He shared 30 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Amy Johnson. Together, they raised their daughter, Britney (Gene) Johnson, and reveled in the joys of grandparenthood with their two grandchildren, Gabriella and Ben, who brought immense joy and laughter into Tony's life.
Tony was a cherished brother to Brian, CJ, and Rick; a fun-loving uncle to Daren, CJ, Kaity, Areal, and Cassidy; and a respected brother-in-law to Renee Lancey. He also held a special place in the hearts of his father and mother-in-law, Gene and Sharron Dunlay, who admired him for his loving nature.
Throughout his career, Tony demonstrated a remarkable versatility and dedication. He worked at multiple restaurants, where his colleagues knew him as a reliable and friendly face. His green thumb was evident not only in his personal garden but also in his work as a custodian at the local church, where he ensured that both the indoor and outdoor spaces were welcoming and well-maintained. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to his community, as he often volunteered his time and skills to better the lives of those around him.
Tony’s interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. He was an avid gardener, finding solace and joy in the cultivation of his plants. His love for the outdoors extended to riding his moped through the countryside, collecting wizards and dragons that sparked his imagination, and embarking on canoeing adventures that satisfied his adventurous spirit. The warmth of a bonfire on a cool evening was one of his simple pleasures, often shared with friends and family as they created memories under the stars.
Those who knew Tony would describe him as a loving husband, a thoughtful father, a passionate grandfather, and a loyal friend. His presence was a source of comfort and strength, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Forest Anthony Johnson, we celebrate a life lived with an open heart and a generous spirit. His legacy will live on in the gardens he tended, the laughter he shared, and the love he spread. Tony's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told by his loved ones, the lives he touched, and the beauty he left behind in the world.
