Norma Jean (Spencer) Spangler Gossett, 94, Logansport, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in Woodbridge Health Campus.
Born July 12, 1930, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late James Harvey and Nannie May (Hall) Spencer.
On June 12, 1954, in Stanton, Kentucky, she was married to David Clark Spangler who preceded her in death July 23, 1965. On March 30, 1974, in the Wheatland Avenue U.M. Church, she was married to Leland "Lee" Bruce Gossett. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2024.
Norma retired from the Standard Fusee/Olin Corporation after 42 years of employment.
For over 60 years, Norma was a member of Wheatland Avenue Methodist Church. She was active in the church rummage and bake sales as well as the church noodle dinners. Most recently, she attended Main Street Community Church in her neighborhood. Norma was a member of the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries. She was an excellent cook best known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies, coconut cream pie and meatballs. Family was the most important thing in her life - her grandchildren and great-grands kept her young. She enjoyed going to all of their activities. She was beloved "Granny G" and Aunt Norma" to a large extended family and she loved them dearly.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Frank Heathcote, of Logansport, and Debb and Mose Middleton, of Lucerne; her stepchildren, Don (Donna) Gossett, Greensburg, Indiana, Dick (Ronda) Gossett, Daytona Beach, Florida. David Gossett, and Sandy Schrink, both of Seymour, Indiana; two grandsons. Christopher Middleton, Lucerne. and Kyle (Britney) Middleton, Rochester; four great-grandchildren, Makena, Jordyn, and Kayley Middleton, all of Rochester. and Josh Middleton, Logansport; ten step-grandchildren; seventeen step-great-grandchildren; and thirteen step-great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jerry Spangler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth, Homer and Howard Spencer; her sisters and their spouses. Hildreth (George Otis) Rogers, Trudy (Alva) Mattox, Betty (Roger) Baker, and Ima Jean (Virgil) Ashley.
Her family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff at Woodbridge Health Campus and Logansport Cancer Center for the love and support they gave Norma. She enjoyed eating every meal with John and Kolleen Crook and Maureen Prouty. Her roommate, Ida Huddleston, was also a blessing to her.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, in Fisher Funeral Chapel
A funeral service celebrating Norma's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3 in the funeral chapel with Pastor Roger Knebel officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery in Deer Creek, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made in Norma's memory to the Woodbridge Patient Activity Fund or the Cass County Honor Guard c/o Cass County Community Foundation.
