Buck passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the age of 77 and will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 30th at Machpelah Cemetery. Buck was the youngest of two children born to Kimsey H. Towsend and Ethel Holyfield Townsend in Pascagoula, MS. He graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1965 and went on to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi.
He served with integrity and distinction during tours in Vietnam and Africa as a petty officer in the US Navy Seabees. He loved to tell stories about his time serving his country. After the Vietnam War, he returned to Pascagoula and became a member of the Pascagoula Police Department for 10 years. He then decided to change his vocation and began his long career at Chevron, until his retirement in 2007. He served on the Jackson County Civil Service Commission and the Chevron Federal Credit Union Board of Directors.
Buck had a variety of hobbies during his lifetime. He loved hunting, fishing, building, landscaping and restoring old cars. In more recent years, he moved to the country and found that he loved tractors, farm work and taking care of his three horses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kimsey and Ethel, his brother-in-law, Bill Dunn, and his best, friend Mike Whitmore. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Townsend, daughter, Tanya Touchet, sister, Celia Dunn, and nephews, Greg (Rachel) Dunn and Stephen Dunn.
Visitation for Buck will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. Graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Bro. Michael Wilkinson officiating. Bill Elkerson, Steve Wilkinson, Troy Whitmore, Steve Wieden, Greg Dunn, and Charles Frye will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Max McCullers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice in Buck’s memory.
