Robert “Bob” J. Wheeler, 87, of Watertown (formerly of Stoughton), passed away on November 26, 2024.
Robert was born on May 11, 1937 in Racine, WI to Dudley and Rose (Gemmell) Wheeler. After spending the first years of his life in Racine, Bob grew up in the Milwaukee area. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School. Bob spent eight years in then Navy Reserve. Bob attended Marquette University before transferring to University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where he graduated with a BBA in 1963. In 1963, Bob met Sylvia Bliss at a square dance held between UWM and Carroll College. Bob and Sylvia were married on June 13th, 1964 at Delavan Methodist Church.
Bob worked for several different companies in purchasing in Rockford, IL and Stoughton, WI before working and retiring from Stoughton Area Schools in 1997.
Bob and Sylvia went on to have two sons, Matthew and Andrew. Raising their sons in Stoughton, WI, Bob was involved at the Stoughton Methodist Church, where he was a member for 47 years. He gave his time to VIM (Volunteers in Mission) through the church. Bob spent many summers volunteering his time at Pine Lake United Methodist Church Camp in Westfield, WI. Bob enjoyed traveling, taking the family across the US on summer camping trips in their big tent. Eventually, Bob and Sylvia were able to take longer trips and began spending their winter months in Jekyll Island, Georgia. He was able to enjoy multiple trips to Europe with his wife and friends.
Bob and Sylvia moved from Stoughton to Watertown in 2017 to be closer to family. He was a member of Watertown Moravian Church.
Bob is survived by beloved wife Sylvia, sons Matt and Andy (Lauren), grandchildren Rebekah and Parker, brother Richard (Sandee) Wheeler, sister Sue (Ray) Eberhardt, brother in law Dr Erlan (Marian) Bliss of California, cousin Eleanor Preiss, and special family friend Bonnie Daemmrich.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Watertown Moravian Church on Wednesday, December 4th at 11:00am. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Watertown Moravian Church, Pine Lake United Methodist Church Camp of Westfield, or a charity of your choice.
