Shelly Marie Gilman

Shelly Marie Gilman, age 53, of Six Lakes passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2018. She was born in Lakeview on April 23, 1965 to Lonnie and Sharon (Watkins) Outman. Shelly grew up in Six Lakes and graduated from Lakeview Community Schools with the class of 1983. Shelly enjoyed working at the Kent County Youth Camp and waitressing at the Old Homestead while attending college. She continued her education at Grand Valley State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1987 and her Master’s Degree in 1996. Shelly was employed as an elementary teacher at Tri County Area Schools for over thirty years. Shelly married Robert “Bob” Gilman on October 25, 2008 at New Life United Methodist Church in Six Lakes, Michigan. Shelly loved her family, especially her grandbabies. She enjoyed being active. Whether it was snowmobiling, hunting, fishing or going for a ride-along with Bob in the tow truck, she loved any excuse to enjoy the outdoors…especially on a sunny day! She also enjoyed going to the cabin, baking, family gatherings, and coffee…you would seldom see her without a coffee cup in her hand. She was a faithful member of New Life United Methodist Church. Shelly had a passion for helping people beyond the walls of her classroom, leading her to her involvement with Emmaus Walks and becoming a director with Chrysalis. Shelly will be deeply missed by many. She is survived by her husband, Robert Gilman of Six Lakes; her children, Shelby (Erik) Burr of Mt. Pleasant, Rachel (Jason) Wheeler of Coral, Heather (Adam) Steele of Six Lakes, Jeramee (Sarah) Gilman of Blanchard, Andrew (Gabrielle) Gilman of Stanton, and Robert (Kaitlin Papendick) Gilman of McBride; her mother, Sharon Outman-Morgan of DeWitt; step-mother, Sara Outman of Stanton; grandchildren Isaac, Brooklynn, Maddox, Owen, Natalie, Hudson, Henry, Charlee, Dean and Madisen; siblings, Rick (Kris) Outman of Six Lakes, Kevin (Michelle) Outman of Lakeview, Michael (Lisa) Outman of Cadillac, Mike (Jennifer) Williams of Sidney and Michele Williams-Townsend of Alma; sister-in-law, Jane (Lonnie) Outman Hagen; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Lonnie III, Katelyn, Patrick, Keelie, Braidy, Benjamin, Brock, Olivia, Gabriel, Sara, Sophia, Nathan (Rebecca), Jason, Hilary, Seth, Anna, and Joe; great-nieces and nephews, Dayton, Deacon, Layla, Wyatt, Tinlee, Shiloh and Sawyer.
