Sing So Obituary

Sing So was born on May 15th in Phoum Tra Biet, Khom Sam Lanh, Srok Angkor Chay, Khet Kam Pot, Cambodia. Growing up in a difficult environment, Sing's childhood was marked by hard work and resilience. As a young girl, she performed tasks typically reserved for men—plowing farmland, driving chariots, and fishing to help support her family. Despite the challenges of living in a remote area far from government control, Sing was drafted at the age of 17 into the Youth Revolution by the Pol Pot Regime. She endured unimaginable hardship during this time, living through the suffering and loss until the regime's downfall on January 7th, 1979, when Vietnam’s intervention ended the Khmer Rouge’s rule. After the fall of the regime, Sing was separated from her family. Hearing of an organization called the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) that helped displaced people, she seized the opportunity and made the difficult journey to a refugee camp in Thailand. It was there that she met her future husband and had two sons: Van Bol in 1981 and Vichith Bol in 1982. In May 1983, Sing and her family were sponsored by a compassionate American woman named Karen to come to the United States, settling in Ballard, Washington. After her divorce, Sing became a devoted mother, raising her sons with love, sacrifice, and determination. She always put her family first, giving everything she had to ensure their well-being and success. Her love and devotion extended further when she became a grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters, Sovanny Anjel Suong in 2000 and Adeline Bol in 2004. In 2005, Sing met her long-time partner, Van Ham, and together they shared many years of happiness. Throughout her life in the United States, Sing embraced the joys of cooking, gardening, going to the temple, and spending time with her loved ones. She was known for her hard work, love, and generosity. Sing worked at Rainier Sewing in the early 1990s and 2000s before starting a long career at RTS Packaging, where she worked for nearly 20 years. Though she was proud of her work at RTS, she never lost her love for sewing, which remained a cherished part of her life even into retirement. Sing’s life was a testament to sacrifice, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to her family. On November 26th, at 7 a.m., Sing suffered from cardiac arrest at Highline Medical and was peacefully taken from her family and friends. Sing So lived a full and meaningful life, fulfilling her purpose and leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. Though her passing leaves a hole in our hearts, we take comfort in knowing that she is now in a better place, at peace. Thank you to all who are here to remember Sing and mourn with her family. May God bless you all.
