Obituary

Dr. Harold "Chuck" Hawthorne, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Orange, NJ to parents Mary and Kenneth, Chuck was raised in Pompton Plains. Chuck graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy with his Doctor of Pharmacy. He met the love of his life, Janet, while working at Hoffman-La Roche. They were married on November 11, 1978, settled in Wayne, had three children and shared nearly four decades of love and partnership.

Chuck could always be found outside his home taking great pride in tending to his lawn and flowers. A devout man, Chuck cherished his time at church, where he volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister sharing his faith with those around him. He loved movies, especially heartfelt love stories, and was always up for a good cup of tea with plenty of sugar. Chuck was known for his good sense of humor, and always greeted people with a naturally warm smile and laugh. Above all, Chuck delighted in spending time with his family, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever.

Chuck was predeceased by his wife Janet (2017). He is survived by his daughter, Hara Gordon and her husband Philip; his son Kenneth and his wife Alanna; his daughter, Blair Henry and her husband James; and his sister Gail Hawthorne. In addition, Chuck is survived by his six wonderful grandchildren: Joy and Max Gordon, KJ and Anthony Hawthorne, Luca and Maverick Henry.

A memorial mass will be held at Holy Spirit RC Church, in Pequannock NJ on Thursday, December 12th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
