Raymond Wayne Bartek, Sr. born on March 19, 1947, in Waco, Texas, went to his eternal home on November 26, 2024, in San Angelo, Texas.
Ray, as he was affectionately known, brought smiles to the faces of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Diann, of Miles, Tx, his son Raymond Wayne “Skip” Bartek, Jr. (Deb) of Kyle, Tx, daughter Amy Bynaum of Cameron, Tx, granddaughter Sydney (Jaksyn) and great-grandaughter Eden of Luling, Tx, step-daughter Sonja Brunson (Blaine) of Driftwood, Tx and their three sons Cade, Cash and Carson. He was preceded in death by his parents John Ernest Bartek and Wilma Ella (Simek) Bane and his grandson Miles Bartek.
Ray grew up near Temple helping his dad at Bartek Station and spending time with his cousins. When he turned 18, Ray joined the Navy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam on the USS Agerholm DD-826. After completing his service in the Navy, he returned to the Waco/Temple area working various jobs including being a firefighter. Ray then spent many years working for GTE/Verizon in San Angelo, Tx where he learned the trade so well he became an instructor, teaching classes until his retirement in 1998.
Those who knew Ray will remember him for his witty comments, unselfishness, winning awards cooking in BBQ competitions, and his love of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with a host of good friends over the years. He had a gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
Although Ray's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. As we go about our daily lives, each of us will no doubt have one of Ray’s famous one-liners pop into our heads. When it happens, stop, smile and say thank you Ray for one more laugh!
A Celebration of Life to honor Ray will be held at the Catch Pen in Miles, Tx on March 1st. 2025.
