Yaminah "Yummy" Salaam Obituary

Yaminah Salaam, a beautiful, God-fearing woman, who passed unexpectedly at the age of 62 on November 18, 2024, in Killeen, Texas. She was born on December 26, 1961, in Wardtown, Virginia, to Ellen Pettyjohn and the late George Ayers Jr. Known lovingly by many as Yaminah or Cheryl, she was most cherished as "Mom," "Nanny," and "Gobble Gobble" by her family.


A proud Army veteran and decorated soldier, Yaminah courageously served her country during Desert Storm. Her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and her nation was unparalleled. Beyond her military service, she will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother whose love and guidance shaped the lives of her loved ones.


Yaminah is survived by her five beloved children: Lakeisha, Tymik, Quran Sr., Dominique, and Atiya, and 11 adoring grandchildren: Amaiya, Ljay, Noelle, Jaelyn, Quran Jr., Qaylisa, Qristian, Tyler, Bella, Aubrey, and Kehlani. She shared a deep bond with her siblings: Antoinette, George III, Caleb, Maria, Kisha, Jacqueline, James, Rodney, and Rocshekie, as well as several others.Her legacy of love and faith extends to a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.


Yaminah’s life was a testament to strength, compassion, and devotion. She is now resting in the arms of God, continuing her journey in eternal life. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the light and love she brought to the lives of those she touched.

May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
