William "Bill" L. Chestnutt, Sr.

William L. “Bill” Chestnutt, Sr, 82, of rural Rushville, died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Heritage Health in Beardstown. He was born March 5, 1934 in Clayton, the son of George and Martha Johnson Chestnutt. He married Goldie Newberry on February 6, 1954 in Beardstown and she survives. He is also survived by three sons, William “Bill” Chestnutt, Jr. and Frank Chestnutt, both of Rushville and Mike Chestnutt of Frederick; three daughters, Dorothy Orrill of Frederick, Cindy (Charlie) Tucker of Beardstown and Barbara (Daniel) Mangold of Frederick; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Chestnutt of Nebo and Dewey Chestnutt of Rushville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Sue Yvonne and Lori Ann Chestnutt; one sister, Helen Atwood; and three brothers, Frankie, Martin and Howard Chestnutt. Mr. Chestnutt worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and as a deck hand on a barge line. He enjoyed fishing and loved and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with family meeting friends one hour prior to services. Private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sagerfuneralhome.com.
