Aminah Michelle Guy was taken away from us too soon on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the tender age of 19.
Aminah and her twin-sister Akasha, were born on January 26, 2005 in Santa Monica, California. Aminah has always exuded light and love, even as a young child. She just shined a bit brighter, a bit stronger, and at times, a bit louder than others, just ask Angie and Akasha. Lol. Aminah was very much the class line leader, student helper, peer leader, and teacher’s pet throughout elementary, middle, and high school.
All that Aminah wanted to do, she went after it relentlessly. All that she accomplished, she relished in it humbly. Aminah knew that her light was not accepted by everyone, it hurt her feelings from time to time, but it never deterred her. When faced with hardship, heartbreak, and an occasional hater, she pressed forward with hope.
Aminah was a planner, but more importantly she was a doer. She made color-coded lists, checked them twice, then shared her dreams and aspirations with trusted loved ones. Before moving forward, Aminah made time to pray. Even though she may not have vocalized it, Aminah’s faith in God was strong and she sought to grow in her personal relationship. Aminah attended World Overcomers Christian Church and visited First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church with Akasha, Audrina, Alana, and Ava.
Aminah’s light radiated through the halls of Athens Drive High School. She knew everyone and everyone knew her. In school, she did everything in excellence-student government association, basketball, track and field, and volleyball. She took honors courses and maintained honor roll status, only apart from the semester of covid. Lockdown and virtual learning were super tough on our shining star, but she kept her eyes set on going to college and playing volleyball. Aminah received many acceptance letters and scholarships, but she decided to continue in her family’s legacy of, Eagle Pride, Amplified-just like her Uncle Otis, Aunts Andrea, Courtney, and Nikki, and her sister-cousins Audrina and Alana. It made perfect sense as Aminah’s life was built on Truth & Service.
Aminah loved working with children. She was amazing with the littlest, whiniest, quietest, and busiest of them. She spent countless hours giving hugs and high-fives to her students at the Alexander Family YMCA in Raleigh. With studies, work, college volleyball, running for Miss Freshman, and beginning to attend sorority programs, Aminah continued to make time to visit her favorite little cousin Ava.
May the memories of Aminah’s bright smile, contagious joy, and tenacious spirit spur us all to plan, go, and do!
There is absolutely no doubt that God’s angels welcomed Aminah Michelle Guy to heaven on the morning of Monday, November 18, 2024. Aminah was pre-deceased by her loving aunt, Alicia Marie Petifer. Left to continue Aminah’s legacy are her mother, Angela Guy, twin sister, Akasha Guy; father, Calvin Guy; aunts, Ariel Threats and Andrea Petifer; uncles Hakan Jackson, Jamaal Jackson, and Otis Petifer, special sister-cousins, Audrina, Alana, and Ava, and a host of extraordinary aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and classmates.
Aminah Speaks:

Aunt Andrea:
Hey Boo! Working on a book idea. Please do this exercise. Go to a mirror, stand there, pause, and absorb the moment, then say aloud, “when I look in the mirror, I see…”
Aminah:
Hi oh that’s great! Can’t wait to read! When I look in the mirror, I see a beautiful black girl with long, luscious curls who strives for excellence. I believe in myself and my future with a drive to be successful. I know my worth and what I want in life and won’t settle for any less. I am very hardworking with perseverance to make sure I reach my goals. Lastly, I know that any and everything will happen with my trust in God, and I have faith that he’ll lead me to the right path in life.
Aunt Andrea:
Thank you Boo! I love you and I agree! (kissy face)
Aminah Speaks:
Aminah would have wanted us to share her message to honor thy parents, particularly our mothers, in order to protect all those she knew, loved and held dear.
