Clara Florence Beavers Obituary

Clara Florence Beavers (nee Kauffman) passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024. Clara was born on April 4, 1931 in Cumberland, Maryland to Murvel Flay Kauffman and Lucy Elizabeth (Nies) Kauffman. She graduated from Catholic Girl’s Central High School in 1949, and then moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked as a switchboard operator at C&P Telephone Company. She met her future husband as a member of the company’s bowling league. Clara married Richard D. Beavers (known as Dick & Bucky) on August 2, 1958. They were happily married for 54 years until his passing in June of 2013.

Clara was devoted to her family, friends, community, and church. She was a loving, nurturing, giving woman. She was always there anytime someone needed a hug, a prayer, a ride, a meal, a place to stay, or a listening ear.

Clara was involved in every part of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She served as room mother, coach, and cheerleader for each of them throughout their school years.  She attended as many of their school and sporting events as possible.

Clara led an active sport life of her own.  She played softball, tennis and racquetball. She bowled for many years (often in multiple leagues) and she attended and won awards in numerous Senior Olympic Events.

Clara was involved in both her community and her church as well. She served as a Meals on Wheels volunteer for over fifteen years and was a devoted Parishioner, Sodality Leader, and Eucharistic Minister at the Shrine of St. Jude in Rockville, Maryland.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Beavers, her sister, Virginia Lee Kauffman Sell, her brother, John Albert (Jack) Kauffman, and her daughter, Susan K. DeLuca.

Clara leaves behind her children, Richard S. (Kristy) Beavers, Judith A. (Frank) Basile, Patricia A. (Gene) Siggins; her sister, Mary Lou Molinari; her grandchildren, Lindsay (Owen) Wagner, Emily (Glen) Sexton, Christopher Siggins, Matthew (Lauren) Siggins, Stephen (Lauren) Siggins, and Franco Basile; and her great grandchildren, Nikolas Sexton, Malcolm Wagner, Isla Wagner, Samuel Wagner, and Scottie Siggins and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10am on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024 at the Shrine of St. Jude Catholic Church in Rockville, MD; where the Funeral Mass will begin at 11am.  A Lunch Reception will follow in St. Jude's Thaddeus Room.  A private burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date.
