Dorothy Maurine Coughlin Obituary

Dorothy Maurine Coughlin went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 18, 2024, after a short illness.

She was born in Kirksville, MO on November 3, 1928, the only child of Walter Lee Berry and Thelma Gatlin Berry. She graduated from Unionville High School in Unionville, MO in 1946. She received her Bachelor of Journalism Degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO in 1950.

Upon graduation, she worked in advertising and public relations in the Chicago area. She married Clifford Coughlin on January 10, 1953, in Woodstock, IL. Their son, Michael Coughlin, was born on December 10, 1953, in Dixon, IL. She was widowed on November 2, 1956, after Clifford died of a heart attack.

She then taught in public schools as an elementary teacher in Dixon, IL and Elgin, IL from 1958 to 1969. She married Ray Kline, Jr. on May 27, 1967. Their marriage ended with his death in August 1983.

Subsequently, she moved to Colorado to be closer to family. She had trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior shortly after her son, Michael, had done so in 1973. During her time in Illinois, she volunteered at various charitable and educational organizations. She also volunteered at churches in Colorado Springs, CO and Loveland, CO. She also served her HOA in both cities.

She moved to Bend, OR in 2007 again to be closer to family. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Michael Coughlin of Bend, OR and his wife Robin Coughlin. Dorothy has three grandsons, Andrew Coughlin and his wife Kerry Coughlin of Bend, Timothy Coughlin and his wife Stephanie Coughlin of Everett, WA, and Matthew Coughlin and longtime partner Ana Pena of Bend. She is also survived by great grandchildren Lucas Coughlin and Josie Coughlin of Everett, WA.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her two husbands.

A graveside burial service will be held at the Tumalo Pioneer Cemetery on December 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM. The officiant will be her son, the Rev. Michael Coughlin.
