Ronald Lee Harsh, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 18th, 2024. Ron was born on February 5th, 1946, in Orlando, Florida.
Ron graduated from North Hagerstown High School, class of 1964. After high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his service as a Marine, Ronald went on to study and graduate from Frostburg State College, where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma.
Ron loved life, especially the people who surrounded him during his journey. He lived a life of service to others. For most of his working career, he served the mentally and physically handicapped as the director of the Washington County Human Development Council. Following his retirement from WCHDC, Ron worked as a greeter at several local restaurants, desiring to stay busy and “keep him going.”
Outside of his time in the military, college, and work, Ron enjoyed participating in athletics as a member of the Hagerstown Bears and Hagerstown Flag Football League. Ron also loved to sing and entertain, which demonstrated that talent during his tenure with the Friends N’ Spirit singing group. As a natural extrovert, he would burst out in song at the drop of a hat.
Ron is survived by his ex-wife and “buddy” Kathleen Harsh, son Ryan Harsh, many nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. He is also survived by numerous men and women in the area who, during their youth, thought of him as a second father, which he fully embraced. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Harsh, mother, Marie Harsh, and sister, Margaret Prorock.
A viewing will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD, 21740, on Monday, November 25th, 2024, from 6-9 PM.
