Grace Hulyn Barnhart led a life defined by love, wisdom, caring for others, devotion to family and the Lord.
She passed into God’s hands at the age of 94, on 19 November 2024 with her loving husband Don, of 71 years by her side.
Born in Atlanta, GA on December 3, 1929 on the way to Miami, FL where she lived until 1940. She relocated to Springfield, OH and was employed in the war effort, graduating Springfield High School in 1948. She attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, where she majored in art.
She moved to Atlanta, GA in 1951 as a long-distance telephone operator, and in December of that year, life changed forever when she met the love of her life, Don Barnhart in Ohio, while both were visiting family. Upon their return to Atlanta, they began dating and were married on June 5, 1953 in Springfield, OH and resided in Dayton, OH until March 1959. They relocated to Orlando, FL, raising their family in Longwood, FL at Rolling Hills Golf Club.
Grace was a talented golfer and member of the Rolling Hills Women’s Golf Association and the Orlando Women’s Golf Association. Only low vision ended her participation in golf. She was heavily involved in the military, specifically the Florida Air National Guard and other aviation organizations. She was a charter member of the Central Florida Corvair club and also CORSA Corvair Society of America at the national level.
Grace led a dedicated Christian life as a member of Community United Methodist Church of Casselberry since 1966.
All that have known her would agree that she never met a stranger, she always met you with sparkling radiance, she was an encourager and supporter, and showed never ending interest and support in her service to others and missions local and abroad.
Her family fondly referred to her as their Commander In Chief, as she was the cement for their family unit.
She is survived by her husband Don, son David and wife Sandy, daughter Debra (Keller) and husband Lawrence, two grandchildren, Paul Barnhart (wife Kaitlin) and Linda Barnhart.
