Richard Lynn Harris, 84, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.
Richard was born Tuesday, August 20, 1940, in Elkins, a son of the late Harry Jones Harris and Ruth Daniels Harris. On September 9, 1961, in Oakland, MD, he married Joyce Ann Fluharty who preceded him in death on June 8, 2020.
Left to cherish his memory are three children, Christina E. Thomas and husband William of Cravensdale, Susan B. Smith and husband Christopher of Elkins, Randall Scott Harris and wife Stephanie of Washington, NC, eight grandchildren, Andrew S. Thomas and wife Megan, Evin C. Thomas and wife Kristin, Ashton G. Taylor, Thomas Patrick Taylor and wife Stephanie of Canton, OH, Jenna Lynn Taylor, Victoria P. Taylor and wife Lexi, Tiana R. Harris, and Shelby B. Harris, several great-grandchildren that he loved spending time with, sister, Nancy M. Harris, brother, Donnie Harris and wife Linda, all of Elkins, and sister-in-law, Sue Harris of Weston.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife was one daughter, Michelle R. Harris-Taylor, two brothers, Ronnie Harris and Harry J. Harris Jr.
Richard was a 1958 graduate of Elkins High School. He had been employed as a draftsman for Labcraft. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with family, especially at the beach fishing. He was a master wood worker, enjoyed watching the birds and animals in the yard, and was a good cook. Richard loved playing music and was a drummer for WV bands including The Centennials and The DePollo Bros.
Richard’s request for cremation will be honored. A graveside service will be held at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman in the spring.
