Barbara Ann Critchley, 88, of Lakewood passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, bonus mother, grandmother and great grandmother who lived life to the fullest and loved being with family. She dedicated her life to helping others and painting the canvas of their lives with the brilliant colors of love.
Barbara was an outstanding athlete throughout her life. She excelled in basketball, bowling and was an exceptional table tennis player. She was very active in her Four Seasons Community in Lakewood and was a former member of the Women of Irish Heritage. Barbara attended mass at both Visitation RC Church and St. Dominic’s RC Church, both in Brick.
Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Old Bridge before moving to Lakewood 29 years ago.
Surviving are her loving husband of 29 years, James Critchley; sons Thomas Swan of Metuchen, John Swan of Old Bridge, Kevin Swan and his wife, Florence, of Freehold; daughters Maureen Swan of Morristown, Audrey Durando and her husband, Clement, of South River, and Karen Adelfio of Keyport; her bonus extended family, Sue, Nora, and Jen; sister Audrey Motusesky of East Brunswick; grandchildren Ryan, Darren, Evan, Kevin, Emily, Katie, Danielle, Joseph, Lily, Brendan, Brian, Meghan, Melissa, Liz, Aaron, Johnny, Sidney, Kieran and Mairead; as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Barbara joins in Heaven her mother Cecelia Fredricks; siblings Virginia Seckman, Eunice Greeley, Claire Gabel, Gail Higgins, Clifford Fredricks, Paul Fredricks, Richard Fredricks, Donald Fredricks, Glenn Fredricks, and her bonus daughter Roni Critchley.
A memorial visitation will be on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 2 - 6pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11am on Tuesday, November 26 at The Church of the Visitation, 755 Mantoloking Road, Brick. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township. Flowers will be accepted or please consider a donation in her memory to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org.
