Skip finished his final round of golf and fished his last stream on this earth on November 19, 2024, surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 4 at Tennant Funeral Home with Rev. Jared Sonnenberg officiating.

Donald M. “Skip” Koenig Jr., 76, was born on October 26, 1948 in Sterling to Donald Sr. and Bernice (Wacker) Koenig. He graduated from Sterling High School, Northeastern Junior College, and University of Colorado. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and honorably discharged. He recently retired as President/CEO of Equitable Savings after 31 years. He worked in the Financial Industry for 51 years.

Skip was a member of the American Legion, Free Masons, Sterling Elks Lodge, Sterling Country Club, and served on the NJC Foundation Board. He enjoyed golfing, fly fishing at his favorite spot in Linland, and loved CU Football.

Skip is survived by his daughters Shannon (Dustin) Graves and Kassie (Darin) Wecker; sister Susan (John) Sonnenberg; grandchildren Brooke (Austin) Crane, Andrew (Arika) Schwab, D.J. Graves, Justin Seelye, Morgan (Reed) Erwin, Ryan (Noelle Meagher) Wecker, and Ashley Wecker; 6 great-grandchildren; nieces Shelley Sonnenberg and Tara (Dale Magette) Sonnenberg; many beloved extended family, his banking family, and an abundance of dear lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Bernice Koenig, grandparents Simon Peter “Sib” and Ora Dickerson Koenig, George and Marie Roth Wacker.
