George Allen Hemming, 71, of Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a sudden medical emergency.
He was born January 14, 1953 in Canton, Ohio to the late Fred and Marjorie (Johnston) Hemming.
George was a 1971 graduate of Carrollton High School and a 1975 graduate of Salem University, where he played football. He earned a BS in Education. George began his teaching career in Carrollton in elementary physical education. In 1979 he began his career in the River View School District. During that time he taught Elementary Physical Education, High School Physical Education/Health, and finished teaching OWE. It was during this time as OWE teacher that he impacted many student’s lives. This is shown by the countless messages that the family has received. After retiring in 2006, he became the coordinator of the Mentorship Program at River View as well as the ECOL Commissioner. He also served as Coshocton County C.A.R.E.S. Director, and later became Coshocton High School Athletic Director. He most recently was a salesman for Three Leaf Solutions of Sherrodsville.
George coached football at River View and was head coach from 1990-1998. He has been the only coach to lead a team to the State Playoffs. This was in 1997. His son, Mike, was quarterback/defensive back for that team. George always said one of his greatest joys was coaching his son. During that time it was a family affair because his wife was cheer coach and his twin daughters were water girls. Many of his players have messaged saying that he impacted their lives in so many ways on and off the field. During the last two seasons of his coaching, the teams were 15-6. He got to watch Mike play at Walsh University, never missing a game in four years. Above all, George cherished his family deeply.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cindy, and his children, Mike (Megan) Hemming, twins, Katie (Justin Kintz) Hemming and Kristie (Jordan) Howard. George’s legacy also lives on through his six grandchildren: Payton, Cami, and Tatum Hemming, Carter and Miles Howard, and Jace Kintz. George is also survived by his brother, John of Carrollton, Cousin Bill Hemming of Texas, and cousin by marriage, Teresa Hemming of Indiana.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. Private family services will be held following the visitation. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
