Tuesday morning, November 19, 2024, Norman L. Johnson, of Harrison, WV fulfilled a beautiful 96 years of service to his country, family, and business.
Norman was a faithful son, husband, father grandfather, great-grandfather, and Veteran.
He devoted 75 years of marriage to his wife Avis Maxine Johnson (Hardway), whom he married in 1949. Together, they had two children, Michael Johnson and Robert Johnson. He was very proud of his children 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
In service to his country, Norman enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for 24 years and 9 months, travelling all over with his wife Avis, and eventually their two boys. There were many stories told of their time travelling together. Norman was named Senior Master Sergeant in the Air Force. He retired from the services in 1968 and worked at NASA where he worked on the first two rockets that were sent to the moon. In 1975, he opened a Stihl chainsaw business in Harrison, WV and called it “Country Short Stop”. The business is still in commission today and is ran by his son, Mike Johnson.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents George Edmond Johnson and Elizabeth Turner Johnson, sister Hester Nelson, infant brother Spencer Johnson, and infant great-grandson Danny Michael Miller.
He is survived by his loving wife Avis Johnson of Harrison, WV, his children Michael Johnson of Harrison, WV and Robert (Christine) Johnson of Green Valley, AZ, grandchildren Alicia (Tom) Fisher of Portland, OR, Chris (Alicia) Johnson of Harrison, WV, Ashley (Josh) Miller of Summersville, WV, Laura Johnson of Harrison, WV, great-grandchildren Pascale and Harold Fisher of Portland OR, Gracie and Peyton Johnson of Harrison, WV, and Mika Miller of Summersville, WV.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Norman was a lucky individual. His wisdom was unlike any other and he will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Hardway Cemetery in Harrison, WV.
