Steven Edward Gooden Obituary

GOODEN, Steven Edward – 65

Steven Edward Gooden, 65, of Westpoint, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 11:05 a.m. at his home. Born on May 19, 1959, in Lafayette to the late Lowell and Sheila (Chase) Gooden, Steve was a man who embraced life with passion and purpose.

His motto, “If you ain’t living life on the edge, you’re taking up too much room,” perfectly captured his bold and adventurous spirit. Steve’s grandkids and great-grandkids were his pride and joy. Known as “Grandpa Steve” to many, he was always unapologetically himself, rough around the edges with a genuine soul that left an impression on everyone he met. To know Steve was truly to love him.

Steve enjoyed training and riding horses alongside his grandson Lane. He dedicated much of his time to sharing his passion and expertise as a horseman to many in the horse community. An avid outdoorsman, he treasured hunting and fishing trips with friends and family and was a dedicated gun collector. Steve was a proud member of the Linden Conservation Club, the NRHA, and the NRA. His legendary, ornery stories and quick wit could entertain a crowd for hours.

He is survived by his four children, Jamie (James) Geiger of Westpoint, Chad Gooden of Lafayette, Jill (Rodney) Plante of Westpoint, & Jennifer (Jeremy) Barton of Westpoint. He is also survived by his lifelong friend and mother of his children, Belinda Gooden, his siblings, Robin (Robert) Devault of Romney and Terri Davis of West Point, and his beloved grandchildren, Lane (Katie) Beeler, Luke (Kaylee) Beeler, Layla Beeler, Jasmine Gooden, Chance Gooden, Mason Gooden, Gavin Gooden, Pyper Gooden, Reagan Plante, Ella Barton, Ava Barton, and three great grandchildren Liam Beeler, Diana Gooden & KJ Gooden.

He is survived by his stepfather, Henry Dean Killian, as well as countless friends and extended family members.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Simplicity Funeral Care. A celebration of life will take place in 2025 at Circle G Ranch, where his ashes will be spread as a final tribute to his love of the land and family.
