James N. Stevens Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for James N. Stevens, age 64, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 25, at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 394 East Main, Newark, with Father Anthony Lonzo and Father Mark Ghiloni, as celebrants. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.


Jim passed away November 19, 2024. He was born August 13, 1960, in Newark, Ohio to the late Gene V. and Mary E. (Cole) Stevens.


Jim was a graduate of Starlight School. He enjoyed his work at the LICCO workshop. He most recently was an associate at The Gathering Place. Jim was a very out-going person, he enjoyed Special Olympics and participating in bowling through the LICCO group.


He was an avid Ohio State fan and could also be seen cheering on his nieces and nephews at a Granville, Newark Catholic, Heath and Big Walnut sporting events. He enjoyed going to Florida with his family and swimming at the beach. Family was very important to Jim and Jim was very important to his family.


He is survived by his sister, Virginia “Ginny” Large and brother-in-law, Tom Large of Granville, OH; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Elaine Stevens of Canton, GA and William “Bill” and Lois Stevens of Newark, OH; nine nieces and nephews, Susan (Tom) Kelley, Greg (Shanelle) Large, Andy (Kirstin) Large, Nick Stevens, Kathy Stevens, Jeff (Karina) Large, Stephanie (Aaron) Kuhns, Doug (Kim) Stevens and Karl (Elizabeth) Stevens; many great nieces and great nephews and countless close friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Johnny Stevens and sister-in-law, Nancy Stevens.


Friends may attend visitation from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 24 at The Newark Chapel of Henderson- Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation, 59 N. Fifth Street, Newark.


Memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s name to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
