Stanley Marvin Miller Jr. Obituary

Stanley Marvin Miller, Jr. died peacefully at home with family by his side on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the age of 66 in Kingston, Tennessee. His love and faith in the Lord ensured him a place in heaven where he is finally resting comfortably.

He was a good soul and infused positive energy and a good laugh into every day. His intellectual curiosity led him to learn and retain a myriad of facts and a depth of knowledge on a wide range of subjects. He loved sharing that knowledge and the many interesting stories of the life he experienced. They weren’t always the stuff of “breaking news” or an epic novel, rather they were the captured moments in life that he chose to retell in such a way making those around him realize the significance of a moment they may have missed.

His example and perspective reminded us all how to take life in a less serious way. He brought so much laughter to others with his uncanny sense of humor and extensive vocabulary in delivering his comedy. He mastered the art of finding humor and irony in the ridiculous things in life. We will always remember his quick-wittedness – he never missed a beat.

Stanley worked in the wholesale millwork industry supplying high-end doors and hardware to the construction industry for over 20 years. Aside from his love of nature and his academic interest in math and numbers (you’d have to know him to know what this means), he LOVED football. He and his two sons, along with siblings and friends – all in different states, would watch Alabama Crimson Tide, texting between every play! Roll Tide Roll all the way! He grew up in New Mexico and Florida as a Dallas Cowboys fan and stayed a fan until the end. He was over 6 feet tall and a true athlete. He loved playing football at a younger age, then tennis, bowling, swimming, fishing and various other sports and games. He was musical and lyrical as he played guitar and shared that interest with others, in particular one of his sons, a sister and a brother-in-law.

He is forever a father of two sons, a brother to six sisters and one brother, an uncle to many, a father-in-law, a brother-in-law, a son to his late parents and a great friend to many -- especially to his three long-time buddies.

He was positive and optimistic – even in the face of so many challenges and obstacles that life threw his way. Sometimes he was a bit gruff and grumpy --- aren’t we all?

It really is the good things we remember when someone like Stanley leaves this planet, everything else is water under the bridge. Thank you, Stanley, for adding so much color to our lives. We love you wholeheartedly and will miss you every day.

RIP RTR!

A poem that was special to Stanley, one that his mother introduced to him:

Vitae Summa Brevis Spem Nos Vetat Incohare Longam, by Ernest Dowson

(The brief sum of life forbids us to form long-lasting hopes)

They are not long the weeping and the laughter,

Love and desire and hate:

I think they have no portion in us after

We pass the gate.

They are not long the days of wine and roses:

Out of a misty dream

Our path emerges for a while, then closes.

Within a dream.
