Marilyn (Nita) Brown, born on January 13, 1936, in Brunswick, Georgia, to the late Henry Gainey and Louise Hicks. Nita spent her formative years in Brunswick, where she received her education before relocating to Brooklyn, New York.
Upon returning to Brunswick, she met Allen Brown, whom she married on August 31, 1953. Together, they started a beautiful family, welcoming their daughters Darcel, Deborah, and Allene into the world. Their journey of faith led them to Jehovah, and both Nita and Allen to get baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, sharing their love for Jehovah and His kingdom that would solve all mankind’s problems.
In her later years, Nita cherished engaging in telephone witnessing, letter writing and making encouraging picture books by demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her faith. Nita was a woman of many passions. She found joy in arts and crafts, traveling, gardening, and continuously learning new things. Known for her loving, caring, and compassionate nature, she was also a fiercely loyal friend and family member, often described as feisty, always with good intentions at heart. She helped many in the congregation and including the community.
Nita departed this life on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen Brown, and her cherished daughter, Deborah Nunnally.
She is survived by her two daughters, Darcel Trimmings and Allene Bryant, both of Brunswick, GA, and her brother, Alvin (Mae) Day of Hollywood, Florida. Nita was the proud grandmother of seven grandsons: Carlos Johnson of Brunswick, GA; Charlie Johnson of Denver, Colorado; Donte and Tramaine Nunnally of Brunswick, GA; Demario Nunnally of Summerville, SC; Demarius Bryant of Atlanta, GA; and Charles Ahmad Bryant , Jr. of Brunswick, GA. She also leaves behind a legacy of twenty-two great-grandchildren and fourteen great-greatgrandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews and cousins including Barbara Bradley and Minnie Lee Collins. Nita will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her dedication to her family and faith, and the countless lives she touched throughout her life. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
