Emily Elizabeth Herman Obituary

Emily Herman, 84, passed away in Hospice at Beacon Place on November 19, 2024. She was born in New York City (1940) and raised in Little Neck, Queens NY. She is survived by her husband, Harvey Herman and her sister, Irene Stanton.

Emily married Harvey in Hendricks Chapel, at Syracuse University, in 1960. They lived in Syracuse, NY; Austin, TX; Athens, GA; and Greensboro, NC.

During their 64-year marriage, they had four lovely children with three daughter-in laws: David (Calley), Jane, Mark (Shelley), and Adam (Monica), and the latter’s two children, Carter and Louise.

Emily graduated from SUNY-Oneonta with a B.S. in Education. After marriage and graduation, she taught first grade for two years in North Syracuse, NY. She was employed at UNCG for 27 years, first as a research assistant and then as an executive assistant.

Her long-time interests were – reading, a book club, playing bridge, and volunteering at Friends Home West, where they lived since December, 2015. For many years, she loved riding her bike all over Greensboro. Also, Emily was a proud Life member of the League of Women Voters, serving as local and state treasurer.

Everyone loved her and are devastated by her passing, which was much too soon. A future memorial service is being planned. If you would like to honor her, please make a donation to your favorite charity, in her name.
