Janet Marie Kopp Obituary

Janet (Jan) Kopp, age 77, passed away November 19, 2024, surrounded by her family at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis after a short battle with Heart Failure. Jan was born October 4, 1947, in Fort Frances, Ontario to the late Richard and Eleanor Burrock.

Jan grew up in International Falls, Minnesota and graduated with the class of 1966 where she was also Homecoming Queen. While in High School she played piano for weddings, funerals, and other events. She attended the College of St. Benedict, graduating with degrees in Music and Elementary Education. Jan met the love of her life, her husband Ron, in International Falls and the two were married in 1970. Ron and Jan moved to Cambridge, Minnesota where they raised their three children. Jan taught piano lessons out of their home for over 30 years, and as her children reached middle school, taught classes at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She loved teaching and developed a “Cities as Text” course at Anoka- Ramsey where she introduced students to the unique music venues, foods, and culture found in the Twin Cities. She later got her Master's Degree in Music from the University of St. Thomas. Jan combined her love of music with her deep faith in God. She was active in the Church of St. Paul’s music ministry where she played piano; she also taught confirmation classes.

Jan loved traveling. If she wasn’t traveling the world, she was planning her next adventure while finding the best travel deals, or helping others plan theirs. She enjoyed the history, culture, music, and people of every place she visited, and she loved sharing those experiences with her family. Her favorite, and strategically planned event of every trip was sunset. Jan loved this peaceful time of the day to simply enjoy the beauty of God’s earth and our privilege to share in it. Of all the sunsets, Jan most enjoyed those on the beach in Vanderbilt Beach in Naples, FL and off the dock of their Rainy Lake cabin in Canada. The water, sounds of the loons at the cabin, and sunsets always made her feel at home and peaceful.

Above all things Jan loved were her eight grandchildren. She was an energetic fan and faithful supporter to all their games, concerts and solos, school plays, favorite books, business ventures and dreams, big fish and the ones that got away. She loved sharing music clips and rides to school. Anyone that knew Jan, knew about her grandchildren.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ron Kopp and their three children: Jason Kopp of Isanti, Jennifer Olson (Chad) of Harris, and Janelle (Dennis) Wenzel of Minnetonka and her eight grandchildren Amanda Kopp, Rachel Kopp, Adam Olson (Alayna), Jakob Olson (fiancée Kacee), Emilia Olson, Isaac Wenzel, Evan Wenzel, and Josephine Wenzel; her sisters Mary Ellen Villalta, Nancy Phillips (Tom), brother Rick Burrock (Barb); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Eleanor Burrock.

Jan’s family would like to thank the caring team at Abbott Cardiac ICU for their dedication to her care. Memorials in Jan’s honor will be made to Ogichi Daa Kwe girl's wilderness camp in International Falls, MN or Family Pathways in Cambridge, MN.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of St. Paul (1740 Bunker Lake Blvd, Ham Lake) on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. Private Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
