Louis Marcel Meloche, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024 with his children by his side. Marcel was born on February 26,1936 in Ponteix, SK to Philip & Yvonne Meloche. Originally on the farm, his family moved to Ponteix where he attended school and first began to learn English, having spoken French only up to then. In 1958, Marcel married Monica Jean (Mona) Hicks from Simpson, SK and together they raised three children: Marty, Michelle and Maureen. Marcel’s family was always a priority in his life and actions. Marcel became a municipal administrator in the early 1960’s and had stints in Glentworth, Climax and Shaunavon, retiring in 1996. He had a very strong work ethic and was a good provider and fiscal manager, while he was also involved with the Elks, Knights of Columbus, Shaunavon Credit Union Board and driving the courtesy van in Shaunavon. During this period, he also survived two bouts of cancer. Marcel & Mona enjoyed some traveling during their retirement years to Mesa, Yuma, Hawaii ‘Paradise’ and Victoria. Their lives changed when Mona had a fall in 2017 and the focus was now on health and recovery. Marcel was Mona’s and his kids’ greatest fan and supporter. He was always interested and proud of what they, and his extended family were doing, encouraging education and always providing good advice when asked. Marcel’s love of politics, war movies, history books and reading (particularly the Leader Post) were all instilled and carried on in his children and grandchildren. Marcel had an incredible recall up to the last few months and recent struggles with his memory were particularly vexing to him. His Parkinson's and decreased mobility were also extremely debilitating. The Church remained very important to Marcel and his faith carried him through many tribulations, illnesses and his recent health challenges. Marcel was predeceased by his parents, Philip & Yvonne; his sister, Irene Neustaeter; and by his brother, Raymond. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mona; his children, Marty (Laurie) Meloche – their sons, Riley (Harmony) and Regan (Whai): Michelle (Bart) Balfour: Maureen (Darell) Hapke – their sons, Tye, Tristan and Mark (Chistina) Leisle; and by his six great-grandchildren, Indy, Murphy, Tilly, and Ayden, Taliyah and Owen.

Those wishing to attend the prayer service may do so on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.

A Private Family Interment Service for Mr. Meloche will take place at a later date at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to The Meadows Auxiliary, Parkinson's Society of Canada or to Alzheimer's Society.
