Newton. B. Schott, Jr. of Montclair, NJ died on the 19th day of November 2024 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. He was 82.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair on December 4, 2024 at 11AM and the family will receive guests 1 hour prior to service.
Born in Rockaway, NJ, he received his B.A. in Economics from Princeton and his J.D. from Columbia Law School. Thereafter, he practiced corporate and securities law for 13 years with Hall, McNicol, Marette & Hamilton in NYC and, from 1980 until retirement in 2006, he was general counsel and executive vice president for Thomson McKinnon Inc., Allianz Global Investors and related entities.
A resident of Montclair since 1972, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Montclair Kimberley Academy starting in 1990, serving as Chair of the Finance Committee for 7 years and also serving as Board President for seven years; thereafter he was made an Honorary Trustee. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the Montclair Art Museum from 2007 until the present, acting as Board President for three years.
A member of the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair, he served as an Elder for several years, acting as chair of the finance committee. Newt was a member of the Montclair Golf Club and the Princeton Club of New York and he, his wife and other family members spent weeks in the summer for many years in Chautauqua, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the love of his life, Antoinette LeQuire-Schott, and his children, Keith of Alburquerque, New Mexico; April Schott-Auerbach and her husband Philip and their daughters Lilly and Phoebe of Verona.
