James Harrell Brock Obituary

James Harrell Brock, commonly known as Jimmy and lovingly known as “Coach” to countless students and athletes, passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 68 in McDonough, Georgia. He was born on May 4, 1956, in Bainbridge, GA, and was the son of the late Clayton Oliver Brock and Orian Harrell Brock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Douglas Brock, Kenneth Brock, Carl Brock, Tony Brock, and Phyllis Brock Newton.

A dedicated educator and coach, Jimmy spent 34 remarkable years inspiring young minds and shaping athletes. From football and basketball to track and beyond, he coached it all with passion and skill, leaving an indelible mark on every team he led. He taught health and fitness with enthusiasm, embodying a commitment to wellness that earned him admiration from peers and students alike.

A true family man, Jimmy was deeply devoted to his wife whom he affectionately would say brough him true “Joy” in life. Their love story was one of thoughtfulness, devotion, and shared laughter. He found great pleasure in surprising Joy with thoughtful gifts, a testament to his generous heart and loving spirit. He adored his grandbaby, often marveling at her beautiful eyes, and cherished weekly calls with his siblings to stay connected. Jimmy shared a unique bond with his father-in-law, enjoying countless heart-to-heart talks over a cold Bud Light.

Jimmy was a proud alumnus of Tennessee Tech, where he played football and embraced his alma mater’s purple and yellow with unwavering pride. He enjoyed the outdoors, and it was evident in his love for golf, his cherished golf cart rides around the Lake Dow neighborhood each evening, and his beautifully manicured yard.

Strong in his faith, Jimmy served as a deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church in McDonough, Georgia, embodying kindness, generosity, and care for everyone he encountered. He was deeply engaged in politics, loved people, and always extended a helping hand or held the door with his signature warm smile, all a testament to his true southern gentleman roots.

Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and countless lives touched by his mentorship and friendship. He will be remembered as a sweet soul, a steadfast husband, and a beloved “Coach” who taught life lessons far beyond the field or classroom.
