NORTH JACKSON – Helen Yurchison, 99, a resident of Antonine Village, departed this life Tuesday morning, November 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Helen was born May 10, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Alex Garich and Mary Lazorchak Garich and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a proud graduate of Chaney High School Class of January 1944 and briefly worked at Strouss’ Department Store and the Warner Theater in downtown Youngstown before dedicating her life to raising and caring for family, a role she held with unwavering love and devotion.
Mrs. Yurchison was a devoted and active member of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church. She generously volunteered with the parish pyrohy project and the annual parish festival and was a dedicated member of the St. Anne Mother of God Society, the Ukrainian National Association St. John the Baptist Branch 230, and the Ohio Cultural Alliance.
Helen found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved playing cards, dancing, and more recently, solving puzzles of all kinds. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, creating memories that will be forever treasured by those she loved.
Helen’s legacy lives on through her four children, Patricia (William) Piergiovanni of Greer, SC, Michael (Deborah) Yurchison of North Lima, Mary Ellen (Jack) Leskovec of Canfield, and John (Deborah) Yurchison of Canfield; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many extended family members who will miss her deeply.
Her beloved husband of 55 years, Atty. Michael Yurchison, whom she married May 10, 1947, died September 23, 2002.
A grandson, Ryan Yurchison, two brothers, John and Joseph Garich and two sisters, Mary Komsa and infant Lillian Garich also preceded Helen in death.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church 4310 Kirk Road., Austintown where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown where Helen will be laid to rest beside her husband.
In lieu of flowers, Helen’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Helen’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate caregivers at Antonine Village and Buckeye Hospice for their kindness, support, and devoted care.
Helen’s vibrant spirit, unwavering faith, and boundless love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her. May her memory be eternal.
