It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Blanche Eleanor Slaney of St. Lawrence, NL announces her passing. Blanche passed away peacefully at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the age of 95.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her sons, Perry Slaney (Helen) of Houston, BC and Craig Slaney (Patricia) of St. John's; daughter, Lynn Young (Robert) of Portugal Cove-St. Philips; 5 grandchildren, Alonzo Slaney (Andrea), Heather Slaney, Jeff Slaney (Kirsten), Lisa Slaney and Samantha Young (Owen); 3 great-grandchildren, Dawson, Dakota and Tucker; plus a large circle of extended family and friends.

Blanche was predeceased by her husband, William Slaney; parents, Gregory & Elizabeth Giovannini; brothers, Walter Giovannini (Clara) and Alfred Giovannini (Dorcas); and sisters, Leonice Donahue (Bill) and Ruth Giovannini and Rita Giovannini.

Blanche lived her whole life in St. Lawrence, the community she loved. In her earlier days, she worked in her fathers’ store before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Bill. Blanche was a fantastic cook, whipping up meals for whoever showed up at her door. She was not afraid of taking on anything – quilting, pottery, playing the piano, gardening and for many years was an avid curler. She could make a batch of wine from any kind of fruit or berry. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and visits to Nanny’s house always included dessert, ice cream or both. She had a large group of friends and loved to entertain and have company. She attended and was a strong supporter of her church.

In honoring her wishes, cremation will take place.

The Slaney Family will be accepting visitors at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, St. Lawrence on:

Tuesday November 26th

2:00 pm to 5:00 pm

6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, St. Lawrence on:

Wednesday November 27th, 2024 at 11:00 AM

In Blanche's memory donations may be made to Stella Maris Hall Corporation or flowers gratefully accepted.
