Robert Frederick Janulet Obituary

As Hurricane Helene damaged Western North Carolina and the recovery ensued, Robert Frederick Janulet (88) of Etowah NC lost his personal storm battle to heart failure at Mission hospital on October 14 despite the wonderful care provided.

He left his earthly body to be embraced by his Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior, his beloved wife Margaret, parents Paul and Gertrude McLeod Janulet, brother Jim Janulet, sisters Carrie Janulet and Marilyn Brody, and grandsons , Dustin Shelton and Stephen Cole.

He was raised in Connecticut and moved to Pompano, Florida in 1946. He and his best buddy, younger brother Jim, were inseparable in their adventures of building things (sailboat) and fixing stuff (cars). There he met the love of his life, Margaret, married and moved to Gainesville, Florida to attend The University of Florida, earning his degree in Structural Engineering. After college he started a long career in the construction industry, first in Miami and then in Cocoa, Florida. He worked for a contractor at Cape Canaveral during the booming years of NASA.

In 1969 he moved his family to Western North Carolina to once again focus his skills in the construction industry. He designed or built many of his relatives' homes who had also migrated to the mountains. Finally, he branched out on his own, establishing Janulet Construction Company. He earned the moniker of “Bob the Builder" because of his significant contribution to hundreds of projects. He was known for his quality and patience in completing each project by adhering to high standards. He worked throughout the years on almost every building on Brevard’s Main Street, numerous apartment complexes, Brevard High School’s gymnasium, churches, and private residents.

"Bob the Builder" was also a builder of people in his quiet and dependable way. He always was the one that family members or friends called to fix something. He spent a lot of time with his kids and grandkids. He loved to show them his tractor, how to ride a horse, and have family picnics. He loved animals and always owned at least one hound dog. He and his wife were very involved at Horse Shoe Baptist Church for many years. They were always willing to help out and even opened their home to people needing a safe place to stay. He is survived by many friends and family members who loved and respected him.

He is survived by daughters Lynn Plemmons and Becky (Steve) Hand, grandchildren Beth (Ian) Grant, Laura Plemmons, Mendi (Norman) Rice, Brian (Amy) Hand, Rachel (Chris) Richards, Robert (Ana) Hand, great grandchildren Jeremiah (Karsyn) Shelton, Seth (Emily) Shelton , William Grant, Emma Grant, Alexander Hand, Brynlee Hand, Tinley Richards, Edie Richards, Samuel Hand, and James Hand, great, great grandchildren Maverick and Taylor Shelton, and special friends Joni and Claudia Antonelli.
