Joyce Elizabeth Egdorf, a longtime resident of Crete, Illinois passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in Lewisville.


There will be a Celebration of Life, Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 2:00 at First Lewisville United Methodist Church.


Joyce was born in Goodenow, Illinois on November 25, 1932 to Frieda and Elmer Matthias. She graduated from Crete-Monee High School 1950 and married her high-school sweetheart Warren on October 20, 1951.


Joyce graduated from Prairie State Community College and Governors State University. She attended Eureka College and was an Order of the Pearl member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.


While raising children and going to school, Joyce worked for the Marshall Fields Company. She was also an elementary school librarian and a substitute teacher for several school districts.


As an 80-year member of Crete United Methodist Church, Joyce served on the Missions Committee, attended Bible studies, taught Sunday School and served many meals with the United Methodist Women. Joyce filled her days with writing letters and notes, making handmade cards, reading, traveling and telling jokes.


In 2015 Joyce moved to Texas. She lived at Evergreen Senior Living in Lewisville and later moved to Rambling Oaks Assisted Living in Highland Village. There she enjoyed lunch outings, picnics, horse racing, karaoke, crafts and more. Joyce spent her last days at AvilaCare in Lewisville.


Joyce was a avid supporter of Studio B in Highland Village and participated in T.O.P.S. She attended the Oasis Sunday School class at First Lewisville Methodist, enjoyed the Women’s Retreat and Teas, concerts and plays. She attended the Flower Mound Senior Prom at the YMCA and enjoyed activities with the Lewisville Senior Center.


Her passion was her friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren and her brother Dr. Howard Matthias.


Joyce is survived by her sister Ruth Kernagis of Crown Point, Indiana, her daughter Laurie (Egdorf) Urrutia and husband Fernando of Flower Mound and son Randall Egdorf of Quincy, Illinois.


She was a devoted grandmother to Patrick Hurst and wife Sara Boswell, Tom Urrutia, Alex Urrutia, Rosemary (Egdorf) Borger and husband Rob, David Egdorf and wife Jessica. Joyce was a cherished great-grandmother to William Borger, Madilynn and Maverick Egdorf.


Visitation was Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Crete United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service followed at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Kristen Larsen. The interment was Monday, October 21 at St. Lucas Cemetery in Beecher, IL.
