Montel B. Metzger age 94 of Carlock passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Villas of Holly Brook, Bloomington, IL. Montel was born April 28, 1924 in Kappa, IL the son of Lee W. and Ethel B. (Burger) Metzger. He married Aneita L. Swearingen on October 26, 1946 in Carlock, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his 3 children, LuAnne Hollingshead , Naperville, IL, Tom ( Margie) Metzger, Waupaca, WI, Dee Metzger, Normal IL.; 5 grandchildren, Mindy (Paul) Vitucci, Madison, WI, Molly (Tim) Struve, Newport, KY, Mary (Alex) Groth, Spicewood, TX, Hunter Hollingshead, Chicago, IL, and Regan Hollingshead, Lawrence, KS; and 5 great-grandchildren, Jack Vitucci, Emma Vitucci, Madeleine Struve, Lorelei Struve, and Josephine Groth. Montel is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Keith Metzger and an infant sister. Montel grew up in Peoria, IL and graduated from Peoria Central High. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1944-1946 where participated in Po Valley Campaigns in Northern Italy as a rifleman with Company I, 86th Infantry, 10th Mountain Division. He was honorably discharged June 29, 1946. Upon his return Montel resumed studies and graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, IL. He started the Metzger Insurance Agency, Carlock, IL in 1952. He and Aneita assisted Barney Argo with Argo Funeral Home, Carlock for many years. Montel and Aneita enjoyed traveling and especially loved taking cruises. Montel was a member the Blue Lodge AF & AM, Bloomington Consistory and Mohammed Temple Shrine. He was a 4-H Leader for the Ardent Tillers, Carlock and he sponsored a trophy at the McLean County Fair for the Champion Hereford Heifer. Montel also farmed in the Carlock area for many years. He enjoyed spending time at his farm. Summers were spent at the McLean County Fair, the Illinois State Fair and many other local fairs watching his children show sheep and cattle. He and Aneita also clerked auctions for many years. He was a regular at the sale barn. Montel defied his age and continued to drive out to his farm as often as possible. Just a year ago he sold off the last of his cattle. He enjoyed the daily meeting of his regular coffee group at Denny's. Montel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His funeral Service will be 10:00 Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Carlock Christian Church, Carlock, IL. Rev. Bryan Burris will be officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers, IL with military rites by Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4:00 PM-7:00 PM on Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Otto-Argo-Calvert Memorial Home, Carlock, IL. A masonic service will be held at 7 pm at the conclusion of the visitation Monday. An additional visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Carlock Christian Church.
